Tim Huinker at ‘Anchor Wall Systems’

Tim Huinker, class of 1989, came to our attention when a promotional flier for Anchor Wall Systems arrived in our mailbox recently. The flier prominently featured Tim with his photo and the headline “Answers come in all shapes and sizes. This one’s about 6’1 and 210 pounds.” In the text, it continues “With a degree in landscape design and 17 years experience as a landscape contractor, Tim’s ready to face your toughest challenges”. That design degree was awarded at DCTC.

Tim spent the last ten years managing the landscape construction division of a firm in Excelsior, Minnesota. There he designed, sold, and managed the installation of landscapes in the Lake Minnetonka area as well managing other aspects of the business. When Anchor decided to add the position of installation specialist to their team, Tim applied, and assumed the new position early in 2006.

Anchor Wall Systems, a Minnesota-based firm, licenses manufacturers of retaining wall concrete blocks around the world. Tim’s main role at Anchor is to train landscape contractors around the country through workshops and presentations. His training focuses on use of Anchor products and how to incorporate them into a total landscape installation. He trains salespeople and provides sales support. Tim also reviews company promotional literature and training manuals to ensure their usability for contractors, helps development of new products, and attends trade fairs. He has written articles for trade journals, and will even soon appear in the HGTV program “Landscape Smart.”

Tim, who was just out of high school when he enrolled at DCTC, says the educational experience received at DCTC gave him the well-rounded knowledge base he needs as a trainer. He knows much more than retaining walls; he understands design, handling plants, selling products and services, and other elements of successful landscape business. And with his own contractor experience, he knows what contractors need to be successful.

We congratulate Tim on his success!
