Nursery and Landscape sales have topped $2.1 billion a year and the industry needs an additional 2,200 full-time and 3,200 part-time employees.
At DCTC, you can learn what it takes to become successful in the Landscape and Horticulture industry.
Twelve DCTC students recently traveled to Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, to enjoy participation in the 30th annual PLANET Student Career Days (SCD). Held this year March 23-26, the SCD is the premier national landscape horticulture student event. DCTC has participated since 1986.

The
SCD consists of several days of tours, job fair, workshops, social events,
and student competitions in contests as diverse as skid loader operation,
sales presentation, woody plant ID, and many others. This year, nearly
700 students from 52 two- and four- year colleges participated, along with
80 landscape firms from around the nation.

While
this year no DCTC student placed in the top three, a number of students ranked
amongst the top performers in their contests. Two students, Nancy Thorman
Dahl and Annette Langer, were awarded $1,000 scholarships. We also
spent a day at the Park City and Sundance ski resorts (there was a Robert
Redford sighting).
Next years SCD will be held March 29-April 1 at the Michigan State University at Lansing, Michigan. For more information on the SCD, visit the PLANET SCD Web site at www.studentcareerdays.com.
