Nursery and Landscape sales have topped $2.1 billion a year and the industry needs an additional 2,200 full-time and 3,200 part-time employees.
At DCTC, you can learn what it takes to become successful in the Landscape and Horticulture industry.

October 26, 2006
This past summer, the Dakota County Technical College Landscape and Horticulture program developed an installation titled Voice of the Willows that was selected as one of 20 exhibits for the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's Secret Garden exhibition. Just recently, faculty and students learned that their installation was voted one of the favorites by visitors.
In an informal poll, DCTC's Voice of the Willows ranked third in popularity. The director of the exhibition noted that this result was particularly impressive considering that DCTC was placed in the farthest reaches of the Arboretum.
Additionally, the Arboretum has chosen to retain the stone throne that was part of the DCTC's exhibit as a permanent installation.
DCTC's participation in the Secret Garden exhibition came about after a request for proposals was sent out from the Arboretum. DCTC faculty and students made the decision to submit a proposal, eventually being selected as one of the 20 installations for the exhibition.
The DCTC Landscape and Horticulture department sends a big thank-you to the many students who designed and installed the project, as well as to Gerten's Greenhouse and Winco Landscape and Design for contributing materials, equipment, and labor.
