Plant Sales for 2007-2008

Four plant sales are planned for this college year.

The fall potted chrysanthemum sale will be held in early to mid November. Because our new greenhouse is still under construction, they are being grown in an old greenhouse we keep foliage plants in, and the weather conditions have not been favorable. I am therefore unable to predict exactly when they will be ready. There will be two varieties available in 4 ½ inch and 6 ½ pinch pots, grown in several different ways. The sale will be held in the college’s central commons area.

Holiday poinsettias will be offered in early December in the central commons. Several varieties of this popular holiday plant will be available.

The Valentine’s Day bulb sale will begin just before Valentine’s Day, February of 2008. Bulbs of tulip, daffodil, and hyacinth are being potted in early October and placed in our cooler to chill, then forced into bloom in our new greenhouse in January and February. The sale will be held in the central commons.

The spring bedding plant sale will be held in early May, probably the 9th and 10th. Plans are now being made, crops and varieties being selected. Crop production begins this coming January. For more information, see earlier items on the 2007 sale. The sale will be held in our gorgeous new greenhouse at the southwest corner of the building.

Proceeds from these sales fund student club activities and a scholarship endowment for landscape students. Profits from prior sales have also contributed to the construction of our new greenhouse.
